Just a question......why do you want your phone turned off ?
I use G-alarm and G-profile. At night (when I sleep) I charge my phone.
With G-profile I set the system volume to silence (and the ring volume on) from 11.00 pm till 8.00 am.
With G-profile you can put your phone in flymode at any scheduled time if you like.

Just a question.......why would you want to keep your phone on, while the smart i8000 alarm can turn itself on at alarm start????

Advantages of the built in i8000 alarm:
1) (unbeatable major advantage) Turning your phone off every night is equivalent to a soft reset. Your phone is completely "refreshed" after a soft reset and rids itself of any memory leak.
2) When the phone is off, it doesnt consume ANY battery no matter how small it might be. Sarcastically, what's the point of keeping your phone on (in Flight mode), when it is absolutely performing nothng when the volume is setto silence or the radio is turned off. Simply doesnt make sense, does it???
3) Why need to install TWO extra softwares to achieve the function of the built in alarm and less. i8000 is the only WM phone that can smartly switch your phone back on before the alarm starts. Any extra software uses more RAM or storage, and opens up more chance for software conflicts.

So, the simple answer to your question is: "Why not????"

+1 for reg edit. There has to be a way to extend the play time of the alarm.

I'm on WM6.1 firmware IJ1 and my alarm duration is 50 secs.
Just wondering:
1) what firmware you're using?
2) have you tried using different (longer) mp3 as alarm sound?
3) does it happen even after hard reset without installing any program?

I also read that if you use S2U2, it will pop up after 20 secs and cut the alarm and lock the screen.
Have you been using S2U2?

Maybe you've considered all those, just some thoughts, that's all.
