do some firmwares/systems give background noise? getting noise when playing any sound

I'm not sure if it just appeared, because it's really faint and I may not have noticed it before. There is a very weak background noise whenever you play any sound from anything. it starts like 0.2 seconds before the sound and ends right after the sound. it is most noticeable when changing system volume, you can clearly hear (with earphones, in quiet environment) the noise stretching through each beep when you change the volume.
Well it's not hugely surprising that a phone doesn't offer the quality of a stand alone sound card I've been using on my PC, but I would certainly expect something a lot less noticeable.
so did I do something wrong to my phone or is it just normal?
