WARNING: STUPID IDEA COMING! ( i just had to hear what you guys think of this)
i know it makes no sense but something cross my mind ( really stupid to say it in public so here it goes) what if the autoclosing doesn't start after some amount of ram left to use but the amount that is in use? for instance not when the device has 40mb free or 30mb free but when it has 50 mb in use

so if a rom has 80 mb free auto closing would start when 30 mb are left
but for a rom with 60 mb free autoclosing would start when it has 10 mb left

what do you think?

Not that stupid.
I wonder maybe it is not a matter of RAM at all, but size of running gwes.exe process. I have noticed that near 20 MB autoclosing becomes more aggressive. So regardless free RAM size autoclosing depends on gwes.exe and stuff that is hardcoded inside. (Just an idea for brainstorm purposes)

yes I have tried everapp before but the problem persist. To be honest i dont use a lot of applications at a time but i use excel all day and it really bothers me that at times i have lost lots of work because it closes itself.

I configured everapp to never close excel but it didn't do it.

It's not just a question of how much ram is available, it has to do also with the number of process windows can handle - there's a limit of 30 or 32 running processes.... i've read it somewhere.

This is what i did today and until now it works pretty good:

Disabled the samsung dialpad (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled to 0)
Disabled taskmon (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\Taskmon\ enabled to 0)
Disabled GwesPowerOff HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\DisableGwesPowerOff 1to )

Then i did a soft-reset and opened the following programs:

activesync
schedule
messaging
my files
media player
photo
settings

All programs are still running after taking some pictures and sending them via email.
The available RAM a few hours later was 31,77Mb

Correct me if i'm wrong...but this isnt just an Omnia problem is it? Seems to be happening on most (late) 6.1 and 6.5 roms/devices yes? So it hasn't actually got anything to do with Samsung?

Hi Ron,

Just curious, but won't disabling taskmon, cost other problems such as device not going to sleep on it's own after being idle and so on?

Indeed, this is not an samsung problem. programs are closed due to the memory management of windows mobile.
But because there is less memory available on the B7610, which is probably due to samsung, the memory managent of windows mobile is more aggressive..

Just tested it, the phone is going automatically to sleep without any problems.. i only changed HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\TaskMon:IsEnabled from 1 to 0
Used my WM6.5.3 version.

Don't use this tweek if You use navigation software, I tested it during my return from work, I started iGo but after some minutes the screen turned off. Please somebody try it also to confirm what I found. I'm sure its not an iGo problem because I used navigation in the morning during my travel to job and the screen didn't turn off. All the time the backlight setting in iGo is enabled and I also add igo.exe to the exceptional list in S2U2.
