Just a few days back we published information on a software bug in the HTC HD2 Sense Calendar. Well that could be fixed by a software/ROM update which HTC could release, but much more worrying is this new issue.

It has been established that the HTC HD2 Camera has a hardware defect. All pictures taken with the device exhibited a Pink/Purple hue. Several users have contacted HTC's support and received following answer:

This seems like a serious issue. Can you replicate this problem? It would be interesting to see if all HD2's in the marketplace currently suffer from this issue. If you have a HD2, please post your ROM versions, build dates and whether you have this issue or not.

If you have the issue it is recommended you contact the re-seller and/or HTC. Let us know your experiences.

Update 24th Nov 2009: HTC have now stated this is a software issue, and it will be addressed with a hotfix. We will await the release of this Hotfix, and user testing, before updating further.

Sounds like the usual poor quality camer the HTC always seem to insist on using.
One day they will invest some research on decent optics.

Precisely the reason why after all these years I have given up on WinMo. No matter how good the latest phone turns out to be, there always seems to be bugs or other issues that ruin the whole device (my Omnia and Xperia spring to mind here). I know WinMo can't be blamed for the HD2 camera issue but there are software bugs too (like the one with teh calendar). If Microsoft could just get the manufacturers together and bang their heads together these things might stop happening. I'm still waiting for that perfect WinMo device to appear. For the time being, I'm in the Symbian camp!

I don't know why you're bashing WinMo - Symbian and many other operating system have a fair share of bugs too! No software are 100% bug free.

Why are you singling them out? Seems not right...

In other news, the hardware issue on the HD2 will put off my purchase for a few months to ensure they have resolved it before I get it.

He has a point. WM devices are flakey and in my view slow, when comparing them to the Android and MAC OSX phone.
Even dialling a number seems far, far quicker than WM's OS.

To me, it just feels clumsy at the moment. And MS need to get this right, before more people jump ship.

I have to say the Android is just sooooooo good! Luckily I work with people that have WM / iPhone / Android and comparing it to mine, have to say, they just feel better.
Of course no OS is ever going to be 100% free fo bugs. But usability on other devices seems so nice!

Shame about the camera on th eHD2 - Still luckily I have not jumped on the hype of this device, as I know the replacement will be out sooner than we think........

Not being funny but they would say that. If could still be a hardware issue but perhaps they can compensate in software?

I really don't know whether it's hardware or software, as some people seem to suffer with it more than others it could well be hardware.
Personally I only see an over exaggeration of pink when using flash in dark rooms, I don't get any of the pink centre area. Guess I've been lucky with it

Sounds like a low-light/high ISO issue. Could just be the way the hardware/software combo interprets noise in low-light situations. All speculation of course.

I'm not bashing WinMo.....I've used it for years right from the old SPV E200 upto the Xperia. WinMo 6.5 (and 6.5.1 in particular) are a massive improvement. What I am 'bashing' is what seems to be poor quality control from manufacturers when it comes to WinMo devices. All of the devices I've had over the past few years have had 'issues' or 'eccentricities' that just seem to ruin the whole device:

Omnia i900 - could never get it to charge in the car when using GPS. Random freezes/lockups, poor performance.

Xperia - key responses on qwerty get worse over time, random freezes (particularly when using SIP - has done this no matter what ROM I use).

Perhaps if Microsoft turned it's hand to hardware development and brought out it's own WM phones - or set out tight guidelines on what hardware manufacturers used - these things would stop happening. In all, I think it's down to poor quality control and lack of testing (rushing products to market before they are ready).

Nokia design/manufacture the handsets and the OS that runs on them, while S60 also has bugs, these are mainly software related and get fixed. Apple design and manufacture the iPhone and the OS - don't know if it has any bugs but you can probably see where I'm going with this. As I said either MS needs to get a tighter grip on the OEM manufacturers or start making it's own devices. When the perfect WM phone comes along (and when it does it will be a so-called iPhone killer) that will be the phone for me.

Well I am bashing WM OS - In todays world, it simply is not good enough !
I have said this over and over, and the trouble is, there are too many WM die hard fans that are not convinced either because:

1) They are not in a position to have all the various handsets available from Apple / Google
2) They have never seen or used an iPhone
3) They have never seen or used an Android phone

Sure bugs will be around (all software has bugs, holes you cannot help it), but the usability of Android just makes WM look pale..... think of it like a professional singer that comes to a stage to sing and sounds like Ozzy Osbourne. Then you wonder why people get up and leave...

6.5 is simply the same, but with an "add on" layer to make it a little more finger friendly.
Also, what is slightly annoying is that you have devices like the TYTN II that are today still cuting edge, but deemed OUT OF SUPPORT so you cannot get a good official upgrade from the manufacturer or Microsoft.

I do not want to buy a phone every 12 months just to "keep up with the Jones's" - I will buy what I think is right for me and the features it comes with.

Right now, I have a TYTN II - However, seeing my colleagues Android just makes me wanna jump.

Microsoft - COME ON !!!! You have had long enough ........ get your fat arse in gear and get this OS sorted. At the moment lumpy porridge just wont do !

On another note... another WM Official site is claiming its hardware defect !

Your memory is very selective to say the least. I guess you must subsconciously ignore all the negative posts in Nokia support forums. What about all the legendary hardware issues with Nokias past and present, such as hissing microphones (E90), intermittent/distorted earpieces (5800), gaps in cases (5800), flashing screens (5800), intermittent battery contacts (N97), slider failures (N95), turning off by themselves (most old models), creaky plastic cases (most new models). That's just with the hardware. Then there are long standing basic firmware bugs that don't get fixed (e.g. inability to display caller ID when number is against more than one contact). Whilst I don't dispute they build some quality hardware (E series in particular), they also cut many corners (particularly of late) and push out cheap tat as well. Nokia are no better than any other manufacturer in this respect.

I'm thinking of getting an HD2. Does anyone know if the camera has been fixed yet?
Or should I wait for the Passion/Bravo or whatever the Android will be called?
