Okay this is my first post so take it easy on me;

Righto, now if i can update my ROM to 6.5 without turning my Omnia II into a brick ANYBODY can. I did this all on Windows XP with guidance from various guides and F.A.Q's all over modaco etc. so credit to them for teaching me and now i hope to help the less experienced people like myself.

Step 1: Download Octans Mini; http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-omnia-...tans-v2-0-mini/

Step 2: visit this post by Sorg; http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-omnia-...72/i8000nxxijc/
-Download all three files in the first post

Step 3: Download and install 7-zip; http://www.7-zip.org/

Step 4: Locate the two files labeled part1 and part 2 which you downloaded from Sorg's post, select both files at once and right click then select - compress to "" - This will compress the two files into one ".msc" file

Step 5: a- Open Octans Mini
b- select the .mst button and find the .msc file you just created
c- select your language in the drop down box
d- select the .csc button and find the .csc as download from Sorgs Post
-Now as for the drop down box below that you can select a region for your ROM, i used I8000XEUIJC.csc which from what i gather
is a European maybee UK version. It is English and works great here in Australia.
e- You can select to save your "my storage' if you like too.

Step 6: Turn off your Omnia 2

Step 7: plug in your off Omnia 2

Step 8: Press detect button in Octans Mini

Step 9: Octans mini should now give you the option to start. So press start. (double check all your language settings etc now!)

Step 10: sit back and DO NOT touch the phone (so you dont bump it or accidentally disconnect it) It takes about 5-10 mins to do what its gotta do. My advice is leave the phone until the Octans mini says load succesful.

Step 11: the phone should now be done. it will prob restart itself once or twice to update everything then its ready to set up again. Very strait forward you should know what to do from here.

As i said its worked great for me and i have had no headaches whatsoever with it, no hangs, no freezing, no problems at all.
This ROM as far as i am aware is an official one. Also i am told that with this method "bricking" the phone isn't possible but that ain't no guarantee.

All credit for software to go to Sorg- this guy is a genius. be sure to thank him.

Good luck and post any questions here and i can help ya out.

Make sure the phone is off before you connect it to USB and also click the detect button in OCTANS before connecting phone.

you miss the step before flashing you should install the proper mobile device driver. not the one with active sync.
you can find diferent version of the driver for xp, vista and win7 on this forum.
on vista and 7 you must run octan in xp compatibility mode and use elevation by using run as administrator.
those step will get rid of the usb error

I guess you get it all wrong!

here is how it goes after running the Octan
select four (4) parts in your ROM package as follow

Step 1) E.Boot Select >E.boot_I8000XXXXX_HW_40_ebo
Step 2) MultiCSC Select > CSC_I8000XXXX_CSC (you can selected with difference language)
Step 3) MoviNAND Select > PDA_I8000XXX_HW_40.MST OR PDA Select> PDA_I8000NXXXXX_HW_40.nb0
Step 4) Phone Select > Phone_I8000XXX_REV-0X
Step 5) Connect USB cable to PC and your Phone and BE SURE that PHONE POWER is ON before proceed
Step 6) Press the OCTANS Downloader (Detect icon).
Step 7) Turn "OFF" the Phone power
Step 8) The "Starting Downloading" icon will be change to black color (becomes click-able). Hit it and wait for 10 , minutes or so to have your new ROM ready

hi
just flash my O2 also.
step 1-4, as per normal. for step 5, i did it by offing the O2, then press "detect" in octans then plug O2 into the usb, then OCTANS will show "start downloading" then i press it, the flashing process takes place. using octans 2.11.

Simply skip steps 1,2 & 4. In other word, Just add your PDA file (step 3) and continue with steps 5 to 8.

lagrange - what network here in Australia do you use? I'm on Telstra Next G and am wanting to flash my O2. I need to know that it's still going to work on the 850MHz network and that my data connections will still be ok.

solve it by turning off the "preserve my storage content" and performing another flash. :)
