I need to replace my old Nokia and decided on the Omnia II. But now that a universal phone charger is announced which has real benefits for me a frequent traveler, I will wait to buy such a phone.

Anybody know if the universal port is planned for the Omnia an when we will see such a device?

the agreement for the universal chargers connector just was made recently, and i dont think that the current fone models would be having it. it would be expected to be present in newer models... and as omnia II and other omnias announced are already made for the market, i dont think they would have the universal charger connector,, it may probably come in future samsung win mo fones.
and for that u will have to wait a bit i guess

The universal charger will work via mini USB port, so unless the Omnia II has one of those then it won't be compatible when they're released.

Its microUSB, not miniUSB.

And both Omnia 2 and Omnia Pro have microUSB + 2.5mm phone jack instead of Samsung propietary one, so dont worry.

Replace that with 3.5mm jack and you are correct ;)
