Hi guys

Can someone please help me..........

I just bought an Omnia I900 - PROBLEM - I live in Spain and ONLY speak English. Despite numerous reassurances that they would send me an English version ORANGE (Spain) sent me a Spanish Version of the phone. Upon complaining I got told they wouldnt have told me that, refuse to replace or refund.

My problem is this.........

I want to -

1. Unlock phone from Orange but still be able to use Orange Network.
2. Change language from Spanish to English
3. Preferably up grade from Windows Mobile 6.1 to 6.5

I have tried upgrading via Samsungs site but no use it says that the version is incorrect (from reading here I am guessing its because of the version i.e. BNHI1).

Having read and read I can find stuff that does the individual things I want to do BUT (I THINK) nothing that does all of the above (or at least 1 and 2 - not sure I can do 3).

Can someone PLEASE tell me what I need to do in the simplest of ways please

Thanks in advance

No need to fee lost, friend, you've come to the right place! To answer simply...

First, unlock your Omnia. There is a pinned thread in this forum and I'm surprised that you've missed it....
http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...omnia-it-works/

Second, upgrade your Omnia. You weren't able to do this because your phone is limited to country, or brand, by the ROM and another official ROM will prohibit this. A custom ROM isn't limited to this so you'll be able flash one. You mentioned WM6.5... I would consider ROM's from either SECTOR, SHOKKA, or KHUANCHI. They are all reputable ROM chefs and their ROMS are brilliant and in ENGLISH. I personally use Shokka's latest and Final WM 6.5 ROM. Each of these guys have their own topics for these ROMs in the ROM section of the forum. Make sure that you visit the i900 section and not the i910 section. All links to the ROM sections are at the top of the very first page of this Omnia forum.

Third, educate yourself on ROM flashing - this is a must! The moment you install a custom ROM, is the moment you void your phone's warranty...

I've given you the map, my friend. Now you must go on walking! Make sure you read through the threads and all your questions will get answered.

Hi,

Thanks very much for your reply. It was very much appreciated.

You have helped me take the 1st step - I managed to unlock my phone. Actually I didnt miss it, though I must have missed the part about putting in the extra "6th" digit. After that it worked. Thanks.

Now I am stuck. I am a little nervous about updating to cooked ROM for now. Would probably be more comfortable doing an official update first. But in any case it leaves me the same question.

I found a post on another site http://www.samsung-omnia.org/rom-discussio...es-15march2009/ which if I understand it bypasses the checking system at Samsung site and allows you to upgrade no probs.

My query is this...... I have a Spanish Orange phone..... To get an English ROM I have to download a UK one.......Yes ???? If I do that surely it will muck up all the settings my phones needs for GPRS, and other "special" phone settings etc etc and render me unable to use some of the phones features.

Also by going with a "cooked" rom the same thing will happen.

THanks in advance for allowing stupid question number 2

No problem. If you mean finding an UK rom, you do not have to worry. Almost all the roms here on modaco are english if thats what you meant. Try khuanchai's rom, sector's rom or shokka9's rom, they work in every country and are all completely in english ;)
