I have switched to WM 6.5 ROMs and I see a behavior in all of the ROMs I tried:
Applications that I start are closed (terminated) automatically after some seconds of inactivity once I switch to another application.

I used to use WkTask or HTC TaskManager to switch between apps, but now all of a sudden they are being closed and not "minimized".

Is this a behavior in the WM 6.5 ? Because it wasn't like this in 6.1.
Or is it some setting in one of the apps provided in the ROMs ?

Same problem here.
When we open an app, we see in wktask that the other opened it closed, so we can't have anymore multitasking. I tried disable autokill in htc task manager, doesn't work :D
Any help?

I had similar problems. But solution for me was installing wm6.5 build 21815. I had problems with build 21806, but after upgrading to newer version I can run much more applications and use task switching between them.

I'm using Polish version

WM6.5 v3 - Build 21815 BlackEdition Lite

http://iomnia.pl/vie...php?f=63&t=2026
For me it's very stable. I think that build 21815 is much better than previous builds

I found this in another forum, people claim it helped... I'm giving it a try now.

Change registry keys as follows and soft-reset:

Hkey_Current_USER/Software/HTC/Taskmanager
Enable Autokill change from 1 to 0

Hkey_Current_USER/Software/HTC/Taskmanager
MemoryThreshold change from 9437184 to 943718

I'm using 21815 also...but it seems that the app close problem is worse than 21812... hope 21900 fixed that

I've tried the reg settings for the htc taskmanager..doesn't help :D

Did you soft reset after the reg change?

i was having this problem too and after abit of testing i figured it was wktask autoclosing the applications. Now i just use htc's task manager alone without wktask.

i've tried soft-resetting...
uninstalling wktask doesn't help

I even tried deleteing the htc taskmanager service from regedit

Tried to hard reset, and no install of wk task. Same mess.
Changed everything possible in the registry. Nothing.
There's a REAL problem

I moved to 230001 and it seems that not always the tasks are closed.

Which leads me to think there's either:
- Close un-used apps that are idle.
- Close un-used apps at memory limit.

I can't figure out where such settings/tweak is enabled.

Windows Mobile never was made by taskswitchers in mind.

By design it was that task manager = launcher, and OS automatically manages when application processes stopped or re-started again.

Properly designed Windows Mobile application should completely preserve state when it gets unloaded and then re-loaded again. Only very resource-intensive apps are using explicit "Exit" option in menus and can indicate to OS that OS should avoid unloading them (it still can stop them though if resources get too low).

Try not rely on task switching and ignore what apps are actually in memory - it will make your life easier. If you have some set of commonly used apps - just use any favorites launcher out there to quickly switch between them without caring if they were in-memory switched or actually re-launched.

Hello!

I had the same problems since using WM6.5 ROMs above the build 21806, and irrelevant whether it was from Khuanchai or Sector. So I went back to that build.

Now sector has released his 23001 ROM and claims in his changelog that the "closing apps" problem has been solved. sectors rom thread

I haven't read the end of the thread whether users can confirm this, nor have I tested it myself up until now, but I will do both soon, and report back then.

greetz,
gentoo

I've flashed to Sector's ROM. The problem is still there :D :)
but just happening less frequent.
There's still seems to be an auto close of apps.

I suspect when a memory threshold is crossed. ;)

Yes, this is an incredibly irritating bug.

On WM6.1, I was able to listen to music (via S2P) and read ebooks (MS Reader) at the same time.

Now, on Sector's WM6.5, S2P will ALWAYS, without fail, close whenever I multitask anything at all.

Disabling HTC Taskmanager's AutoKill, and reducing the AutoKill memory threshold seems to have little/no effect.

However, at one stage, I did disable a couple of mortscripts which were sucking CPU cycles, and that helped a lot. But the problem has resurfaced, and I've no idea why.

A real pain in the ass. Hope this is resolved sometime.
