GSMArena have posted pictures, videos and specs related to the about-to-be-announced (we expect on the 15th June at the 'Samsung Unpacked' event) Omnia 2!

The Omnia 2 - also known as the Samsung I8000 (full name GT-i8000, codename Cubic 37) - is certainly set to pack a punch with the following specs:

  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional (upgradeable to 6.5) with TouchWiz UI + cubic UI
  • Qualcomm CPU
  • 3.7" 800 x 480 WVGA (non OLED) display
  • Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) / tri-band 7.2Mbps UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (1800/1900/2100 MHz).
  • 8.1 Megapixel camera with dual LED flash and VGA @ 30ftp Video Recording
  • WiFi
  • GPS
  • DivX certification
The Omnia 2 is apparently part of a suite of devices including the S8000 'Jet' and M8000 feature phone.

I'll post more information as we get it, but as a big fan of the original Omnia (as I know a lot of you are), i'll definitely be lining up for one of these! :D

I've included a video below of what apparently the new device's custom UI in action. Enjoy! ;)

P

Updates:

- Looks like the device will be UPNP aware, as with other Samsung handsets - details
- WiFi certified - details
- Added radio specs

it looks extremely laggy, unresponsive screen. u can see the user struggling with the device interface, specially the cube interface which is almost impossible to control, by the time u get it right, u would have wasted enough time and it would be actually simpler to just click on the start-programs and choose the required app.
and yeah,, really awsome when it shows the error message at the end of the video, too bad it is cut short. :D
i think samsung is following in the path of apple, with their release of their "new" iphone.. nothing much actually, just some waste collected together and sold for a high price, IMO.
actually samsung probably is releasing this omnia 2 at an extremely early stage just to compete with the iphone 3G S.
they made a big leap with the omnia HD, too bad it runs on symbian. if it was win mo, it would be the killer device for the iphone and HTCs as well ,IMO.
well, too bad, it seems they a taking a step back with this omnia 2.

It's clearly Beta code IMHO...

Still excited about the device!

I've seen another video with the cubic interface, Minus the actual cube thing. It was very smooth, and much more responsive.

That is either a very old video or one made to make the interface looks slow and clunky.

What are the specs for onboard storage, and expandable storage?

Kind of important to me.

They should not release you tube vids when not using a finished product, it certainly puts you off the device.
I think a finger input would have been better than trying to use the thumb though.

Hell yeah,
nice Device dude! It looks very Iphone Killer style, but the performence is not better than the "old" Omnia i900 ... i think thats one of the most important parts, to give that devices more power.

Nice crash at the end ;-)

The info on the display provided in this post are wrong:

Samsung has confirmed that this will be an AMOLED display

moreover the video posted is old, this video shows it better :D

Nice video, bu I also think that the first omnia looks better than the new one.

Does anyone know if the Omnia II has the etiquette setting like the i900 has, where turning the phone face down will shut off sound until it's flipped back upwards? I haven't seen anything about it mentioned in any of the reviews, and while it's not any kind of deal breaker for me, it is kind of a nice feature.

Also, I'm curious as to whether or not the FM receiver is inside the factory headset again, or if one can listen to the radio on their own, much more comfortable, much less bulky headset?

I really need an urgent help since I need to decide if I can get the Omnia i8000 or not TODAY!!.

I have T-Mobile and my research has shown that the 3G provided on Omnia i8000 is not compatible with T-Mobile. If anyone can help verify this issue I would appreciate it a lot.

My other option is iphone 3GS but IT has the same compatibility problem with T-Mobile. Any and all info. would be great.
