NOW AT VERSION 2 WITH SEPERATE SIP SETTINGS FOR PORTRAIT / LANDSCAPE!

Posted Image
Presenting, OmniaSIP... a program by myself to change the default SIP at startup and orientation switch, because I use the 20 key and got fed up with it keep launching in keyboard mode (except in landscape where it's better)

Features:

- Nice UI
- Nice icon
- Orientation aware
- AppToDate compatible
- CAB packaged

Source code is now available below too, enjoy (not updated to V2 yet) ;)

To use, install then REBOOT (important). Run OmniaSIP set your chosen SIP and hit save, switch orientation, do the same, then you're good to go!

Enjoy, feedback welcomed! If you use the CAB, please consider donating £1 to my 'quidapps' effort to develop cheap, useful applications and tweaks - click here to donate. Donations will be used specifically to buy development tools to enable slicker and more advanced tweaks and applications in the future while retaining a £1 price point!

Installed ... working fine!

Excellent. Thank you.

I love the Samsung keyboard, but it's impractical in the upright position and for emails in the lying position the Send key is dangerously close to everything else (have already sent multiple partial emails - really annoying).

Still, I wonder if it would be possible in something like Mortscript to write a SIP changer that sets a default vertical position SIP (like the keypad) and a different one in the lying position (like the keyboard)? Anyone know how to go about writing something like that?

Edited to add: If we're talking about a conditional SIP changer, why not have a SIP default or even SIP+language combination default for different apps? I write most of my emails in Swedish and prefer using the keypad. At the same time, I mostly write in English, or rather don't use Xt9 in combination with the keyboard in every other program.

I second this. I would prefer keyboard for landscape and phone pad for the normal orientation. Xt9 in keyboard mode is not practical as some of the words in my native language is not in English as well. However, if I disable this in keyboard mode, it is also disabled in phone pad mode...

thanks..

Yeah that makes sense actually depending on orientation change the sip. Could get slow though.

Paul, I'm slightly confused and have a question.

Does this program allow you to set what your default input method is based on information from the accelerometer? The initial post states orientation aware but I see conflicting posts from other users?

No, it just lets you set the default SIP. The orientation awareness is just for appearance of the app itself.

It seems that after installing this, some of the letters do not appear initially when I typed but will suddenly appear (including those letters that did not appear initially) after I change to another keyboard. Anyone else had this experience? Any suggested solutions?

Regards.

Thankyou, you have helped me and many others realise how good these Omnias are when you erase the bugs. Anything else you are working on?

Thanks again for the app and the source code. I began thinking about having a look at the source code, but on a whim I decided to get as familiar with the different options as possible. Discovered that Xt9 in Swedish on the keypad makes some odd errors, missing suggesting very common words that otherwise show up on Xt9 on the keyboard and the phonepad. Phonepad works excellently with Xt9 in Swedish, but the suggestion list gets longer (naturally with 3 possible character combinations for each key press).

The shocker was how fast I was able to type with relatively few errors with Xt9 on the keyboard in portait orientation (!). I started off carefully, hitting the back button and groaning every time I made a mistype - took ages, was what I expected. Then by chance I looked at the screen and the word I wanted was suggested, and just to the left was what I actually typed with two hideous typos. Got me thinking. Then began typing as if I just expected the phone to know what I wanted. Discovered that at an almost computer keyboard speed with my right thumb on the Samsung keyboard in portrait mode, I had extremely few errors. Apparently their algorithm also takes neighbouring characters into account in a sort of fuzzy logic, resulting in unexpected accuracy at high speeds as long as you don't try and correct yourself until the end of the sentence.

Strangely, I couldn't match the speed in landscape mode with two thumbs because the screen and keyboard are not centered on the device and one of the thumbs ends up doing most of the typing anyway. Error level was about the same as in portrait.

That said, I've decided to go with the Samsung keyboard for everything and throw caution to the wind.
