While at the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 webcast event yesterday, Matt from http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk and myself recorded this video overview of the hotly anticipated device.

Enjoy ;)

I know you have complained about the chunkyness of the Touch Pro. Does this feel any better?

Wouldnt be a device for me if it takes that long to alter the screen rotation. Something which I would be doing every time I write a message on a QWERTY featured handset.

Does it have auto-rotation? Like the omina/iphone etc?

It definitely feels less chunky... the overall dimensions feel more in proportion I guess...

Not how I expected this to look!

http://www.sizeasy.com/page/size_compariso...X1-vs-touch-pro

The x1 is a lot smaller than the Tytn II than i thought, and the Touch Pro (which i've actually seen in the flesh) a lot larger by comparison...

I'll be honest with you, the X1 looked great when I first saw it. But now, with the Diamond and Touch Pro even what little we have seen of the Touch HD, I cant see a reason to go for an X1. I don't even really like the aesthetics of it compared to the HTC branded devices...too little too late from SE IMHO, just my 2p so don't get offended if you have a crush on the X1 ;)

Re the size/feel issue: It's definitely a porportions thing...the X1 is taller than the Touch Pro so it might "feel" better in hand even though it's actually quite a bit larger (volumetrically).

Cheers Paul. Wish the release date of the HTC HD was closer, definitely seems that would compliment a Touch Pro as my second device.

To each their own asthetics wise... Features wise the sensible headphone jack, slightly larger screen and the slight tilt on the screen when you open the device are the winning elements.

It looks very promising other than the slight lag in switching to landscape when you open it.

No we wont i'm afraid. The Vario IV / HTC Touch Pro is getting better reviews though.

Also in the same thread he says the Vario 4 wont be out till October 3rd, but that date could slip dependant on them clearing through the Vario 3's

Guess i might be shifting providers.....

From what i have seen/heard, the X1 is near enough exactly the same size as a Samsung Omnia only thicker (due to the qwerty).

Also... landscape mode switching now seems to be extremely fast with the latest build.

However... there is NO accelerometer.

I was pretty excited about the X1 when i first heard about it and even more enthused when i saw the specs... but now....

I can't see me switching from an Omnia to this. Only advantage would be a qwerty keyboard, better screen resolution and a proper head phone jack as far as i can tell. Everything else (Sony Panels etc) is well... meh...

If you are however, intent on having a device that has a qwerty keyboard, you would be hard pushed to decide between this and a Touch Pro....

I think the X1 has a lot going for it over the Touch Pro. Is the lack of accelerometer really a deal breaker? I didn't actually use it on my Diamond in the end, i just found it slightly useless (except for the little tilting game ;)).

The screen is great on the X1 and it makes the device carry its extra height far better, the Touch Pro just feels dumpy and the screen feels tiny.

I think a harder decision would be your first point, a keyboarded X1, or a (8/16GB) Omnia...

Vodafone for definite to start with, not sure on others, though I know Orange won't have it for at least a month.
