  • Interests:The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

Record tracks of your trips anywhere on the Earth from your mobile device. Tracks are traced on Google Maps and stored in an online archive. All you need to start tracking is a mobile device with the internal or external GPS receiver.

Now available (since may and recently updated) for Windows Mobile (Professional & Standard) as well as BlackBerries, Symbian, Java and PalmOS phones. (iPhone version is apparently in the works). [more]

In areas without network coverage it is still possible to record tracks by a mobile device. These tracks can be uploaded to GPSed when you are in the area with good network coverage or from your PC or Mac. Positioning data can be transferred online via GSM, EDGE, 3G or WiFi networks.

View and organize your tracks in a personal online archive
The uploaded tracks are stored on the server and available for review and management from GPSed web service.
- Make your tracks Public/Private;
- Change track's color to better distinguish them on a landscape;
- Detailed track information;
- Tracks auto-zoom;
- Search among your tracks and public tracks of other users;
- Attach photos to tracks;
- View waypoints made from mobile application;
- Add text comments to tracks;
- Split and merge tracks*;

* These features are coming soon

Pin your photos to a map with a simple geotagging feature
Take photos when you travel and link them to a map precisely at a place they were taken. The geotagged photos will be stored on your computer for easy and private access. See your geotagged photos in one click on Google Earth.

Attach photos to tracks from web-albums
You can beautify your travel impressions with photos from trips by attaching Picasa web-albums or Flickr photos right to a track.

Show your tracks and photos to your friends
Sharing your trips impressions with friends is easy. Let others view your tracks and photos by making them public.

Show geographic location to friends instantly
Let your friends see your instant position on map when you are recording tracks with GPSed.

I installed this the other day after seeing a post here on MoDaCo by cubix and it works really well on my Blackjack II. (running GPS on COM4). Tracks are uploaded immediately. Twitter was notified immediately with a link to my GPSed page. (Notifications can also be sent to Facebook, MySpace & Blogger)

You can learn more about the WindowsMobile version of the application HERE.
More about the program itself HERE.
You can download the FREE Windowsobile version (and other versions) HERE.

Before I hear it....I know CamerAware does much of the same (see location link in my sig) and a other features as well. I personally dont use the Safety Camera portion of CamerAware and like the online presentation of programs like GPSed, though there is more they could add...to name a few:
1) The ability to simply post a single current location instead of a whole track.
2) The ability to publish that location or track in a generic badge (facebook, myspace, generic blog, singature)
2a) If tracking a path, show the most current uploaded point
2b) If posting a single GPS location…just show that point.
3) The ability to email a link with your current location that the end-user could click on and see your position on a google map or GPSed map.
4) The ability to see location or track on a WM phone. launching WindowsLiveSearch or GoogleMaps?

I know there are also other apps that do the same kind of thing (SportDo....any other suggestions?) and I would personally like CamerAware to break-off a program and web-service that serves this specific purpose and more!
:D

PS>
This type of app is veeeeeeeeery popular in the iTunes app store! ;D

I was just about to mention that I'd like to see something like Nokia Sportstracker for WM, but it looks like SportsDo does the same kind of thing.

I like the accelerometer-driven pedometer in Sportstracker though, which doesn't seem to be available in SportsDo (probably due to the lack of a standard accelerometer API and lack of devices featuring it?).

Also, Nokia Sportstracker is free but SportsDo looks like a great alternative for WM and isn't well priced compared to dedicated tracking devices.

lol, my diamond would last about 30 mins without power on full time GPS! Not sure I see the use personally. I think a bigger battery and a proper 'sportstracker' as mentioned above might have some mileage though.

Either Swapie is having problems with his PC...or Modaco is having problems.
But this post keeps appearing....deleted about 6 of them already.

Sorry - I was getting 400 errors from the server after about 5 minutes waiting for the page to load, so I hit back and re-submitted...

Finally re-tried it with a fast-reply button and it worked, then saw the message about 6 repeats - sorry about that!

I had the same (along with my posting errors here), with a very long wait before it gave the characters not right error. I wondered whether it was a FireFox 3 issue (first time I posted on here since upgrading) but GPSed also had errors with IE7.

In the end, I registered from the app itself on the device, and it worked straight away.

Doh!

Only just noticed you could do that :-(

Edit: Bum! It gets my email address wrong! It leaves the last character off!
Now I can't register with the name I want (or several variants) cos I have tried them all!

I have SportsDo which looks a little slicker, but sadly is a right pain on the Diamond as it doesn't seem to trigger the internal GPS itself. :D
