Hi all,

Coming as a user of many diff HTC PDA (last was TyntII) , I have appreciated two main features that came bundled with the WiFi Manager

1) The ability to set the signal strength for the Wifi receiver
2) LEAP/PEAP settings

On the Omnia I notice both features were missing. A few may ask why i need it?

1) The Omnia Wifi signal is one of the lowest I have seen in all my previous PDAs (HP/Compaq/Dopod/Asus/HTC). I wonder if there is a *# xxxxxxxxxxx # code like the one used for increasing the volume to be applied here

2) My office network uses LEAP as a way to authenticate the Wireless device. Does anyone out there knows of an add on I could do for this since Samsung did not think their "everything in one" pda was meant to be used in other encryption environment

MAny thanks in advance

Haven't looked into it properly, but I assumed the LEAP/PEAP was under Domain Enroll, which can be found in Start> Settings> Connections.

To use LEAP go to the wireless settings, Add a new connection (fill in the SSID) make sure you have "The Key is automatically provided for me" ticked, Click next and select PEAP from the drop down list.

seems a lot of ppl been complaining about omnia wifi signal range.i discovered something after 2-3 days studying about all these Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g.omnia uses b & g but i guess we're only using Wi-Fi 802.11 b.the difference between b & g is the signal range and also it's data rate.which means g is better than b(wiki of u want to know more about this).
when i'm trying to tune up my omnia using sktools i found out that by default Wi-Fi 802.11g is not supported in my omnia.so i changed that setting and after soft reset i tried connect to wifi and the signal is wayyy better than before.plus i could see other wifi router also.now the signal range is optimzed by turning on Wi-Fi 802.11g.
this tweak is for tuning up the signal only okay!

Hi there, how do you go about tweaking it? Where does one go to turn on wifi 802.11g?

Thanks

as i said i used SKTools to edit it.i don't know where it is located in the registry bcoz i'm still new at this.if u have SKTools open it.
select tune up>network tab>WLAN 802.11G support .default value is no so u change it to yes.click done and soft reset the phone and u are good to go.
u will see those green bars increasing in wifi advanced settings.

gud luck.

hey arthos i tried this tweak for a week already and the connection is indeed more stable and a bit stronger now. but i feel that it is still quite weak compared to other pda's
i hope some one finds a way to adjust wifi radio signal strength as the first poster described. i think itts even a standard feature on wm 6 .

i have also noticed that the phone radio is also quite weak.
i am presently using the j1 rom and i hope these two issues could be addresed

cheers

I did the SK tools trick yesterday. It helped the signal strenght but it is still very unstable and I have to restart the wifi every 5 minutes to connect again. I hope this will be solved in future ROMs.

Did it work? Do you feel a speed boost and better signal range or is it still the same?
