Well, it's been a long time coming but Gigabyte are finally pushing their way into the European market and for your viewing pleasure, I've knocked up a mega unboxing video of all three of the new Gigabyte devices heading our way very soon! :D

First up is the Gigabyte GSmart t600. It may have been announced back in March 2007 but it's only just heading our way now. It was the first and is still one of the only Windows Mobile devices to have an integrated digital TV tuner (DVB-T)! Specs are as follows:

  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional
  • Intel PXA270 520Mhz CPU
  • 256MB ROM
  • 64MB RAM
  • 802.11b/g Wi-Fi
  • 2MP Autofocus Camera (w/Flash)
  • Bluetooth 2.0 (w/EDR)
  • Quad Band GSM (GPRS only, no EDGE, 3G/HSDPA)
  • 2.6" VGA Screen
  • TV: DVB-T, DVB-H, T-DMB
  • Radio: DAB
  • Wisetalk* (unique feature, explained below)
  • 1300mAh Battery
  • 140g
  • 110 x 55.5 x 18.5mm
Next is the GSmart MW700. This is one of Gigabyte's newer devices with a slim form factor and integrated SiRF StarIII GPS. Specs as follows:

  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional
  • Intel PXA270 520Mhz CPU
  • 256MB ROM
  • 64MB RAM
  • 802.11b/g Wi-Fi
  • 2MP Autofocus Camera (No Flash)
  • Bluetooth 2.0 (w/EDR)
  • Quad Band GSM (GPRS & EDGE)
  • 2.8" QVGA Screen
  • SiRF StarIII GPS
  • Wisetalk* (unique feature, explained below)
  • 1300mAh Battery
  • 130g
  • 116 x 59 x 14.95mm
Fianlly, the MS800. It's the bigger brother to the MW700 and shares all of it's features with the addition of a few bits such as HSDPA! Specs as follows:

  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional
  • Intel PXA270 520Mhz CPU
  • 256MB ROM
  • 64MB RAM
  • 802.11b/g Wi-Fi
  • 2MP Autofocus Camera (No Flash)
  • Bluetooth 2.0 (w/EDR)
  • Quad Band GSM (GPRS & EDGE)
  • 3G/HSDPA
  • Forward-Facing VGA Video Calling Camera
  • 2.8" QVGA Screen
  • SiRF StarIII GPS
  • FM Radio
  • Wisetalk* (unique feature, explained below)
  • 1300mAh Battery
  • 130g
  • 116 x 59 x 14.95 mm (official specs - I think it's a bit longer than that)
*Wisetalk is a set of tools unique to Gigabyte devices. They include a built in answering machine, conversation overdubbing, call filtering and conversation recording. Here's the official blurb on Wisetalk:

Gigabyte said:

Ever felt tired of being chased everywhere because of mobile phone? Wise Talk is the 100% in-house built software which gives you the freedom of deciding when to pick up a call. The Overdub feature simulates background noises to your callers to camouflage your actual location. Try out the sound of airport or concert or meeting room. The Answering Machine can playback pre-recorded greetings. When there is an incoming call, You can even set different greetings for different callers.

Enjoy the video, try and ignore the couple of stupid mistakes/omissions I made and if you want to know anything about these devices, feel free to ask! :(

...are in the video :D

Nah but seriously, t600 is too big and the screen is a bit too small, as are the buttons. DVB-T tuner is ok but not great (at the moment) and DAB support seems non-existant - there's only a TV player in the ROM I have. As for the other two, again, a bit too big and they really should have VGA screens but overall, quite nice devices. For obvious reasons, I prefer the MS800 over the MW700 :(

Hi Nedge

Got a question for you. But not related to your review though. You compared the phones briefley to a HTC Trinity. Is that an official HomeScreen plug-in you've got on it or part of a cooked rom?

Thanks

Hi Nedge and all others,

has anyone tried to extract the Wisetalk answering machine software to use it on a HTC or an XDA Flame? Does it work or is only Gigabytes Hardware capable of incoming call/voice recording?

It's a hardware specific thing I'm afraid and Gigabyte are the only ones who do it. It's a shame because the answering machine works really well and saves you money too!

Heh, I'm glad someone spotted that as I didn't and Paul certainly didn't mention it! :(

What's your opinion on the custom Today screen plugins?

They look REALLY cool and smooth in the video. Are they locked to Gigabyte devices?

Yeah the new UI is ok but I would have like to have seen a bit more system integration. I mean, it's basically just a pretty app launcher.

To answer you're other question, no, it's not locked to Gigabyte devices. It actually leaked out onto the internet a few weeks ago.

Yup, it's very silly of the other WinMo manufacturers (most importantly, HTC) not allowing for this. The community (including my articles) has been demanding this for years as it's in most states (including U.S. states) not forbidden to record calls.

About t600, you didn't mention that it also has Intel 2700g GPU, so that means all Axim games are
perfectly playable and Coreplayer plays smoothly all your PC videos...

Of course, I don't blame you, but Gigabyte itself for not advertising this nice feature. :D
