Microsoft has added some cool new features to it's FREE 'Windows Live Search' product. Available for download from http://wls.live.com, the new update adds:
  • Map your friends: Grabs addresses from your contact list, puts them on the map, and provides directions.
  • View Virtual Earth collections: Lets you check out maps of locations/events shared by members of the community.
  • Web search: Launch web search directly from the client to find web pages, product price comparisons and reviews, news, images, etc.
  • Weather: Check the current weather, or a 4 day forecast.
Pretty cool :D

  • Interests:The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

Definitely the best mobile software MS has ever created....and actually continue to develop!

Wish they would integrate the speech recognition for the UK though.

Orange regrets to inform you that their network will be going down in 1 hours time for all users apart from yourself. This is because nothing would go down on you, not even a network!

Plus all the other stuff the UK version is missing :( A quick map of local petrol prices would rock! :D

The fuel price listing makes this app golden!

I love it!

Is it just me that can't get Live Search to work properly when connected via Wifi? It won't display maps in any format and trying to do anything else just comes up with a message telling me to check my data connection. It's fine via GPRS and everything else is fine via wifi.

Tim.

Has anyone else noticed that the backlight no longer stays on while using this App? At least when it's not plugged into the car.

& Wifi works fine for me, just used it.

Agree the improvements make WLS the best free thing out there for WM.

I have a Q9h with its now legendarily slow GPS "time to first fix" problem, but after installing WLS this morning, I got a first fix in less than a minute. Amazed, I restarted the phone to see if it might happen again ... and it did! So the question is, did Microsoft institute some trick to help the device find sats or has AT&T possibly instituted assisted GPS, or is this just a one day fluke?

Nice update. Thank you.

Updated perfectly through IE - Skyfire could not determine what phone I have. (Moto Q9h - AT&T)

Am i the only one that gets presented with a page written in Dutch or some foreign language whenever i point my Touch at http://wls.live.com to download this software? Any ideas how i can change this to something i can read? I had it on my Touch originally, but removed it to free up some memory, but i'd really like to get it back again now.

If you go there on a desktop PC, it'll let you choose the cab file to download, which you can then copy to the device and install...

Direct link to the WM6 cab (I'll remove if frowned upon...) http://mobile.search.live.com/client/downl...veSearchWM6.CAB
