Look what's just arrived in time for my trip to MWC next week... a shiny new MWg Atom Life :)

As I put the device through it's paces, here's your chance to ask me anything you like about the device!

First impressions? It feels small and light (compared to my Kaiser) and it feels FAST! :D The packaging is top notch and it's a refreshingly high quality non-HTC device!

Retailing at £299 from eXpansys, specs on this mobile powerhouse include:

  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional

  • Intel XScale® PXA 270 Processor at 624 MHz
  • Tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900
  • UMTS 1900/2100
  • EGPRS (EDGE)
  • HSDPA
  • 2.7" TFT QVGA display

  • 1GB Flash ROM
  • 64MB RAM

  • FM Radio with RDS
  • Stereo Speakers
  • SRS WOW HD sound
  • 2 Megapixels CMOS Macro-focus camera
  • Preview mirror for self portrait
  • White LED strobe flash
  • Secondary VGA CMOS camera for video calls

  • MiniSD expandable memory - Supports miniSDHC high capacity cards
  • Wireless LAN 802.11b/g

  • IrDA Infrared
  • 106mm(L) x 58mm(W) x 18mm(T)
  • 145g
You'll be hearing more about this device if you listen in to our podcasts 'MoDaCo WinMo Week' broadcasts, as well as updates from me as I use the device, but in the interim, here's the unboxing :D

P

PS Yus, in my excitement during the unboxing I forgot to do an 'around the device', sorry about that :D

It's SIM free, and can be had on a T-Mo contract from Expansys!

How's the 64MB RAM? Is it a problem? I saw this cost the same as the HTC Touch (128MB ram ver) I was about to buy. But with Processor at 624 MHz I wonder if this is a better deal. But some say there's hardly any free ram left and u have to keep closing apps. Never used WM5/6 so duno how true this is.
Was also considering a glofiish x800 which strangely I found also at a similar price. Also plagued with reviews about ram/slow etc.

RAM actually hasn't caused me a problem so far, but i'll reserve judgement until i've been using it a while :)

looks good looks good. Just ordered one. Everything I wanted (3g, wifi, Winmo6) - not bothered about GPS (I have a BT GPS Rx). There is a 5 day wait :) Knowing Expansys that means I have no chance of getting one......

Beware Expansys waits. Their site shows what they have, not taking into account their outstanding orders. I got told 2 days after ordering that an 'In Stock' item would be 6wks away!

Is there any O2/MWg branding in the ROM? I.e. any bubbly blue backgrounds/splashscreens, logos on the dialler screen, etc?

Thanks,
Ian

This becomes a good device, only after you set it correctly. And then it's flying. But, if anyone would know the CORRECT MMS SETTINGS FOR VODAFONE UK PAY AS YOU GO, I would be grateful. I managed to set up the HSDPA connection, but not the mms one.

Cheers,

Mo
