Instructions for de-certing if you're experiencing problems

--
Edit 19.05.2003: Dutch users may find this link helpful:
http://www.developers.orange.com/forums/sh...php?threadid=22
Thanks to Martin for the tip.
--
Edit 23.04.2003: A (seemingly) UK-specific update from fozzie here:

Decert site can now be found here
http://developer.ora...spv/comdef.aspx

Quote

I say type +44xxxxxxxxxx (No space!)

for both the Action Register app and on the Orange Website.
I did it this way from here (UK) last Friday and it was the only combination that worked so I guess that's a major difference

So all you UK-types that have been having problems: give this a try.
--

This guide was mainly written for those who've been having problems with getting the official de-cert process to go through; I'm not especially an expert, the hints posted here are simply the best results of a lot of my trial-and-error attempts to get a couple of SPVs de-certed

Note: It may be necessary to establish a GPRS connection before you start trying this de-cert process - Action Register needs to make a short data call to register with Orange's SPV-database, I assume, and it doesn't always do this on it's own. Be sure to establish a new GPRS connection after you've done with the de-cert process.

First of all, disable any popup stopper apps you have running. If you're using Norton Internet Security, temporarily disable this too.

Go to the normal Orange Official De-cert link.

When asked for your details, try typing the number in this format:
+45[space]xxxxxxxx

Type your IMEI in the appropriate field.

Press OK.

If you get the error, go to the phone number field, type in some text nonsense, do the same in the IMEI field.

Press OK.

You'll get taken to a page where you can download a registration app (Action Register) to your SPV. On this page you'll need to type in your phone number in the format:
+xx[space]xxxxxxx

Do this and then run Action Register, following the instructions on the above page.

N.B. It seems that there are some inconsistencies with the format of the telephone number required by Action Register - it may be that you don't need to type the country-code at all as this seems to get added automatically. Obvious, really, though I used the country code on my own SPV and the process went through OK.

Action Register should then report "Phone registered"

Go online via GPRS to any webpage. ;)

Now you can restart your popup stopper app and get to work configuring your NIS settings properly :(

If the above doesn't work for you within 5 minutes, try again - check that *all* the phone numbers you type in are the same.

Once you've done the above, you'll *not* need to use this method again to de-cert, for example when you hard reset or install an update. After completing the above, the phone will be registered with Orange and the de-cert page will work properly every time thereafter.

EDIT: Easier to read, more precise & Torben's correction. GPRS tip. Number format request. Title change, the problems don't only occur in Denmark.

OK, looks alright. You're remembering to type your phone number in on the page where you d/l the app? remember to leave a space between the country code and your number itself - also on the main de-cert screen; ignore what it says about +41xxxxxxx - mine only worked once I'd used the space....

Like I said, try using a space (I did make it pretty clear  ) i.e.:

+01[space]401xxxxxxx

or

+1[space]401xxxxxxx

Make sure the number you typed in on the registration page also includes the space...

Hope this helps.

Do I put this on the Phone or back on the decert page from Orange?

Am I supposed to get some sort of confirmation screen on the phone when it has completed?

You put it on the phone *and* Orange decert page - both on the Action Register page and on the de-cert page itself. Your phone seems to be registered according to your original post. To be sure, run Action Register and re-type the number exactly as you typed it on the Action register download page on Orange's site; the numbers obviously need to be the same, otherwise the database won't be able to match 'em.

You'll get a confirmation (in english and french) on your SPV when the process is complete - mine took about 10-15 seconds to come through once I'd got it right.

You'll need to go online with the phone after running the app, Orange says... It didn't work for me until I did that - any webpage will do, as long as the phone makes a connection...

Ah, thanks for that correction Torben. Mine was already online and it went through OK. Strange that this doesn't seem to be a problem in the UK tho'....

I'll edit the original post and add this.

You have to follow the instructions I gave above, more or less to the letter; on the "normal" de-cert page you just type text instead of numbers in the Phone number and IMEI fields (I just typed [+45zombie] and [zombie] respectively. You'll then get taken to the Action Register download page.

Which firewall you using? NIS? ZoneAlarm? Let me know and I'll update my little guide at the top, if necessary.

It does indeed - this is a known problem that I forgot to add. It can be configured otherwise but NPF is not the most user-friendly when you need to configure specifics. Added to the main post.

I just got a SPV sent to me from the UK; I'm in the US, and I'm having the exact problem that priccijr is having on de-certification...I can't get it done with the de-cert app (version 2). Activesync will not start up after the Orange screen disappears and I put the phone back in the cradle.

I've got the Active Registration app installed on my SPV, but I'm confused on how to de-cert after that. I get a message in the app that says "Active Lock is running", and under that it tells me my "phone is registered."

When I put in +01 xxxxxxxxxx, and match that up with the online registration, the online page tells me I'm not registered. I've gone online with the phone after registering on it, but I'm still in gridlock. Any help out there?
