My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

You can download it at your own risk (as I am) but MoDaCo wouldn't fully endorse it. Someone has leaked out a WM6 Rom for the Blackjack. Maybe to unofficially test it. Or maybe it was just a naughty employee. For all I know it could be stolen. All big no-nos. But the thieves can burn in Hades as I reap the rewards of their wrong doings!

You can read about it on the AT&T forums here:
http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board/messa...thread.id=32417

or HowardForums here:
http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1...age=1&pp=15

Do so at your own risk...or wait until it is officially released as the official download cant be far off now! :P

Hi, thanks for the tip.

I am yet confused whether my Samsung i600 (with wifi) is compatible with this ROM. I know in USA they have a version without wifi. I could not find the answer on the above mentioned forums...

To answer your question, it's an AT&T branded ROM for the Blackjack.
I wouldn't install on the i600 as it's not made for that device.

Works great on my Blackjack so far!
Just finished a painless install and now off to play.

Dont forget that it needs to be installed on a XP machine. I had to come to work to do so as I have Vista at home!

The only little bug I've found so far is that I cant get alternate characters when holding down keys while typing..
Oh, and I'm still trying to connect via WDC in vista. ActiveSync on XP worked fine. Let me see if it's my firewall...

Thanks for the clarification!

I actually never came accross a forum on the i600 itself, and I really wonder where I can find unofficial support and discussion on my device. Any clue..?

EDIT: OK, I found; everything is available here in Modaco only. That is: http://www.modaco.com/Samsung-SGH-i600-Fir...re-t253760.html

Hehe.... sorry for being bitchy. I know how you feel. I've constantly tried legal and illegal betas, RCs, and was given Ulimate by Microsoft for attending the launch. But I just can't get on with it.

I've upgraded my PC quite dramatically, 4 gig ram, core 2 duo overclocked like mad, decent mobo and graphics.

The Windows Vista performance thingy maxes out at 5.9 for 4 or the 7(?) things, and I drop about 0.6 in total! But its still awful, slow, buggy and I just end up pining for XP.

Bit of a shame because I want to love it.

Meanwhile back at the topic... is this a new guideline for Modaco? Not that I'm bothered, but I thought Modaco was fairly strongly against unofficial releases?

Mark - still waiting for an official Hermes rom...

This is kind of an exception.
1) It is posted on AT&T's site which makes me thing it was leaked by them.
2) They didnt take it down...why should I not point to it?
3) It is fully branded by AT&T. I'm 99% sure this is not a cooked ROM but a version of what you'll see officially very soon...if not the same exact thing.
4) I didn't post the ROM...I just pointed to it.
5) I REALLY WANTED WM6 and had to tell everyone it was available and works!
6) I have at least 3 disclaimers in the original post and note that it's not the norm here.
7) I expected Paul to take it down if he thought it shouldnt be there...which I wouldnt have a problem.
6) I REALLY WANTED WM6 and had to tell everyone it was available and works!

Given the normal "don't even discuss non-official ROMs" Modaco stance, isn't this thread a little hypocritical?

I dont believe anyone ever said you couldnt discuss non-official roms. Discuss them all you want. Under normal circumstances...you just cant link to them.
Again, this is posted on the AT&T forums...that's the exception. AND I believe it's their offical ROM...just leaked as the TMobile Dash ROM was. Additionally as stated above, it is my belief that they leaked it themselves.

If Paul or a mod believes otherwise, they are welcome to remove the thread. Would you rather I didnt mention it?

In addition, I think the attitude in general around ROMs is changing, and I plan to make the MoDaCo position clearer.

Hehe, wouldn't be so bad but only yesterday I removed several rapidshare ROM links from an I600 thread :D

Your right about AT&T not taking it off their own forums tho, it is an exception. And it's not like you provided a direct download link either :D

Maybe they posted it in the hope that the blackjack community will beta test it for them and report bugs?

@Paul, A definitive list of Do's and Don'ts regarding ROMs would be nice :P

It's hard to decide on where to draw that line tho

I used on my blackjack. It worked well until the vibrate function switched on permanently. Then my phone didn't get calls or did intermittently then is would do all kinds of screwy things like weird alarms, not allow me to push the softkey to accept incoming calls to name a few. Its all good though since i had an older blackjack I took mine to the corporate office and got a new blackjack package with extended battery for $0. I made sure to flash it with the original rom before returning it obviously.

Ok, I am new to the Blackjack and to smartphones in general. Could someone point me in the direction of information on what is changed/improved in WM6?

That would surely contribute "bringing me back" here from xda. After all, Modaco was my fisrt love :)

Moreover there is almost no interest in smartphones' roms anywhere. It'd be a plus to have brains put together to work out improvements.
