Just search for a UK town in the location box and it works fine!

Hmm, sort of.

Search for a UK postcode and you're empty handed. Search for a local amenety (such as a golf course - they're quite large and we've got 2 on our doorstep :) ) - still empty handed. Plus there's no option to insert pins / favourites / bookmarks (call 'em what you will).

I do like the map presentation and the satelite imaging, but for finding places & things, it's pretty useless.

Map24 on the other hand, finds any UK postcode in a couple of seconds and displays pubs, cafes, museums etc in town and cities without even being asked. Plus you can do most of the faffing about on the PC and 'import' fave's etc into the mobile app with 2 button presses. And I do like the 3D option too. Great for the route mapping.

Ooo - I think I'll live dangerously and use both :D

Also looking for a good device lock for my Vario II.

I'm getting sick of my device being woken up in my pocket by incoming SMS, then when I pull it out a bit later there's 10 programs running & loads of numbers have been called etc etc.

Can anyone help? Must be a .cab file.

Here is a new lock program OnLockPro, give it a try

Map24 is excellent in all respects. However, I do like the 'Locate in Google Maps' addition to my Contacts menu having installed, ahem, Google Maps. GM is rather basic compared with Map24 and WLS but its bloody fast and often all the information offered by Map24 can get a bit overpowering.

Just my 10d's worth.

I'd add MortPlayer...
Mortsaver (as a screen lock)

and Total Commander as a file explorer replacement

Greetings,

That's an interesting list of applications!

I was wondering, is there a way to download the complete map for a given country from Map24 or any other mapping site to use offline on a mobile/PDA?

I'll be going to South Africa in a couple of months time and thought it would be useful to have the full map(s) for it - I'll be disabling GPRS before I go to ensure I don't get a huge bill!

In fact, it'd be nice if I could put together a complete travel guide for the country - apart from the usual tourist info given on the Map24 maps, I'd like to add field guides for wildlife/birds/plants/etc, emergency contact details/addresses/numbers, etc.

Preferably, as much as possible free info!

To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, there's a Micro SD version of Robert's Multimedia Birds Of Southern Africa - it normally comes on a 256MB Micro SD card, but I could also get a 2GB Micro SD card and use the rest for the other information I want to collate.

All suggestions welcome!

Kindest regards,

James

:) I just want to say that this is a great forum. I am a completely new to this but here goes.

I have a Cingular (AT&T) 8525 phone and have added, among others, the "batti" software. That is where my problem is. It downloaded and installed fine. It works great. But, it keeps a "notification" on my lower toolbar. When I "hide" it, it goes away for about 2 seconds and pops right back.

Any help?

Thanks,

Phil37
