As you know, Smartphone and Pocket PC is based on the same system(Windows CE), there are many great application for Pocket PC, but they can not run on smartphone. For most of them, the problem is that there are no touch screen on smartphone, so you have no way to control the application.

SPHelper is a software developed by myself, which emulate a virtual cursor for smartphone, you can use the phone's keyboard to control the cursor. Besides, the software includes some useful tools like windows manager, process manager, etc, to make the smartphone easy to use. I'd like to introduce this software to you and welcome to download a copy for evaluating. I have uploaded the software in this post.

SPHelper is a shareware and it costs $9.95. The following description is copied from it's web site http://www.bobsoft.com/sphelper/

====================
What is SPHelper
SPHelper is a collection of useful tools to make your smartphone easy to use. Including a virtual cursor, windows/process manager, zoom/move current window, grab and paste text, etc. With the help of the virtual cursor provided by SPHelper, you can run many Pocket PC softwares on your smartphone device.

Features
* Virtual cursor. Controled by smartphone's keyboard.
* Send command to any program to control it.
* Generate menu automaticly for pocket pc application.
* Windows manager and process manager.
* Zoom/Move/Close/Confirm/Cancel current window
* And many more...

License & Order
This is a shareware. It costs $9.95 to buy a single license. You can buy this software through RegNow.com at http://www.regnow.co...cgi?item=9615-3

Try the demo:
http://www.bobsoft.c...ad/sphelper.zip

Difference between Version 1.0 and 1.0v
There are two version of SPHelper including in this zip package. They differ a little. The 1.0 version use low level keyboard hook to catch keystrocke, witch makes SPHelper accessable any where, even in a game which disable all other keys. But there are some conflicts between 1.0 version and some other program. If you have problem using 1.0 version, please try 1.0v. 1.0v version use normal key procedure, lost some small features in 1.0, but has better compatibility.

How to use SPHelper
Just download this zip package, extract the files and copy them to your smartphone. Launch sphelper.exe, you will see the menu and virtual cursor.

SPHelper hotkey:
* Back:Hide cursor
* Left softkey:Send command to current program
* Right softkey:Menu of SPHelper
* Joystick:Move cursor
* Action:Left button click
* 1:Double click
* 2:Right button click
* 3:Jump to the next focus control
* 5:Send "Enter" key to current window
* 6:Send "Escape" key to current window

When cursor is hidden:
* Long press 8:Show windows manager
* Long press 0:Show virtual cursor

That sounds like a great utility, I'll give it a try.

Does it help at all with convincing PPC-only applications to install on Smartphone? I'm sure that many of them would run just fine, but they often refuse to install. This isn't too hard to workaround if they're installed from a CAB. Is it possible to grab the CAB from Temp or somewhere when installing from an executable on the PC?

I think you can find the cab from X:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync (X is your system driver).

Cool app. ;)

Can you include a file exclusion feature? More like hide system applications from the Windows Manager. For instance, accidental closing of replog, activesync and rapisrv may not be good for others. Just a suggestion.

One thing this could be useful for is C550 users. Pedroms found a way to get a GBA emulator working on a smartphone but you need an app that enulates a cursor. Theres one that already works on WM5 so this may be hope for C550 users who want a GBA on their phone ;)

Can someone explain further the process of how-to-run a PPC compatible app on the Smartphone? How do you avoid the 'not for this device' conflict message exactly?

I've looked into this and didn't get too far, so I posted the question in it's own topic here. Lets hope someone else knows more about hacking WM5 PPC software for Smartphones...

Someone claims to have already managed to get that to work on this thread. Maybe you or he will share to save everyone doing this by hand?

Okay...I am missing something here. There's no SPHelper.CAB to install this and the .EXE doesn't run on my PC - so I gather I copy this to the phone. I did, copied it to the Windows directory, but no icon shows up or anything. I could use a little advice on how to get this running.

Thanks.

Kermit
