I have decided to release a public beta of this application that I was working on quite heavily in late 2004, as development has slowed somewhat due to real life commitments, and I would like to build up momentum again icon_smile.gif

CamerAware will allow your phone, when connected to a Bluetooth GPS, to provide an ongoing display of your speed and direction, and monitor a database of cameras, providing you with an alert when one comes within range.

Additional features of the application include an ability to log your location to Phone or Storage Card at intervals of 1 second or above, and to upload your position at preset intervals to the http://www.World-Tracker.com service.

perfect! just what I have been looking for, The on screen speed will come in handy. I use tomtom but have always been annoyed that I have to go through countless menus to be able to find my speed.

will install it now and test it on the way home from work.

Thanks Paul!

  • Interests:The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

I wish I had a GPS system :(

There are way too many speed cameras near me and I really hate those grey ones  This app would be great.

GPS now added to my credit card queue

Thanks Paul.

Just one question though, is this just for Smartphone, or does it work on Phone Edition devices such as the M2000 and Jam? If it does, it might be worth copying the announcement to there as quite a few won't know about it.

Phone History:
Current - iPhone 3GS
Previous - (All on Orange) HTC TyTN II, SPV M5000, SPV M2000, SPV E200; Nokia 6310i, Nokia 6210, Nokia 7110, Nokia nk702, Nokia 5.1, Original Nokia Orange. Others at various times - Ericsson SH888 (T-Mobile), Nokia 3310 (O2), NEC e616v (3)

Hi Paul, quick test last and CamerAware picked up my GPS and found the database ok.

During a quick drive it reported the camera's by turning the screen red but all I got was the system 'doink' sound. I have found the alert.wav in the \Storage\My Documents\CamerAware\Sounds folder but it did not play this.

I have the program itself installed to my sd-card and it has created the Database, logs and sounds folders in \Storage\My Documents\CamerAware and \Storage Card\CamerAware. Should it create both sets of folders :?:

Also I have my logging options set to every second on the storage card but after checking this morning both log folders are empty.

Nice to see this back to like, keep up the good work.

Ah yes, it is either looking for the WAV file IN THE APP DIRECTORY, or in \Storage Card\CamerAware\Sounds.

I'll fix it in the next release, and yes, you should see CamerAware directories under 'My Documents' in 'Storage' after the first run.

Logging.... did you hit 'Begin Log'?

Sounds like you haven't installed the OpenNetCF CAB.

As previously stated, PLEASE POST SUPPORT ISSUES ETC IN THE CAMERAWARE AREA.

Just to say looks interesting so far, will get back with any suggestions

One question- its only being given the GATSO database to work from, should we not merge the SPECS db etc. to get a more complete coverage?

Hi Venomgames, I have not tried it in CameraWare but in its previous incarnation I appended the mobile, redlight and spec's files onto the end of the gatso file and it worked.

Wouldn't it be useful if you could have a speed warning and/or indication verbally. Looking at a speedo is dangerous, especially on a motorbike.
